An oil heater at Paperlinx required oil replacement more frequently than the maintenance scheduled suggested. The oil was being exposed to excessive temperatures resulting in premature degradation of the oil.

It was anticipated that increasing the oil flow rate would maintain oil temperatures below an acceptable threshold, however CFD analysis identified a zone of transient flow in the heater which would exist regardless of the oil flow rate.
